Flooding
During our trip to Dambulla last month, the whole country especially the central & northern regions were inundated with nonstop rains which caused a lot of flooding in lowland areas.
We were lucky that when we got there, the rains had let up and the sun is shining once again. But I got firsthand view of the surging floodwaters when we pass by the Kandalama tank on our way back to Colombo.
The driver told me that a family of 3 (parents plus 1 young child) were caught in the flood just a week passed and died.
I took photos while we were passing through. We had to go through a side road which is lower than the water tank level (I can just imagine how the surge could have swept away the motorbike the family was in!) as the new bridge being constructed was still not completed.
I said a little prayer to the family who perished and to all the victims of last month's flooding in Sri Lanka. We really have to take care of our environment because Nature's retribution can be fierce and deadly.
