Kunahandhoo Island
Kunahandhoo Island, Laamu Atoll, Maldives
Tucked behind the island of Hithadhoo, the island of Kunahandhoo is partially hidden from our view (from the resort). This gem of an island is a bit more quiet and less developed than its 2 neighbors, Hithadhoo & Maamendhoo. There is a makeshift jetty which is being used as the entrance to the island. So simple, you tie your boat to rock or a nearby boat and off you go.

We actually visited twice, the first was when we initially had a recruitment presentation at their school to entice the young men & women to come join us and work at the resort. During Ramadan, we also visited again the island to give the Ramadan gift hamper to the Island Councillor (local residents normally give out gifts to their neighbors and relatives during the holy month of Ramadan).
Although the island acreage is quite considerable, the island remians quiet and with lesser residents around (they say it has around 600 - 700 residents at the time we visited), the island retained its traditional charm.
Old houses lined up in clean, well-swept streets with an abundant and colorful vegetation surrounding the island. The residents are also very generous hosts, both kind-hearted and welcoming.
(found this interesting......a yellow model plane with MDP emblazoned on it.....this is the current President's political party)
