The Wrath of Ondoy
I thought it was just the typical Manila flooding…….I mean, it happens every year, especially along Malabon and Marikina. Back in my UPD days, we used to rejoice whenever it rains hard coz it means, roads will be impassable along UST area -- meaning No Classes! But this year, it’s different. It has become bigger. More disastrous….More scary…..yes, let’s be scared of what is happening around us, in our cities, in our country.
My heart goes out to all those who lost their homes, their livelihoods, especially those who have lost love ones in this tragedy. Yes, it is a tragedy of major proportions. Reading the posted FB messages asking for help for their families in the Philippines makes me cry. Watching the news is a traumatic experience, with images burning in your mind of people in the rooftops of their houses calling out for food and water.
Why did it happen to us? Or better yet, why did we let it happen to us?
It’s now our wake-up call. Let’s mobilize and start making our environment habitable and sustainable. Please love our environment.
